Courier Delivery Services: Why They Run The World We Live In

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

The modern age of technology and business has made life considerably easier. Courier delivery services are a good example of this. Delivering packages of all sizes and shapes, these delivery services have a definite advantage over traditional snail mail.

The idea of a courier is not new. Back in the ages of ancient civilizations, it was very common to see homing pigeons, horsemen and runners across the countryside, all trying to get a message from point A to point B. These runners would travel the entire distance at a steady pace so that their package could get delivered. To this day, there are still several marathons which trace the same roots as these messengers.

Of course, couriers today rarely travel by foot. There are a wide variety of methods of sending a certain something by courier, with all modes of transport being used. A few most commonly used are:

Bicycle or motorbike - used in cities where traffic can inhibit trucks and walking is just too slow.

Delivery trucks and railway - used to carry packages cross-country, or even across borders.

Aeroplanes - the fastest way to travel long distances and transport any cross border shipment, delivery services were revolutionized by the aircraft. Able to travel anywhere in the world within a day and easy to track, this is the best way to send a package through air freight.

All these transports provide a faster delivery, and thus less waiting for mail. The fact that an airplane travels at several hundred miles per hour means that an international delivery can take several hours in some cases. This speed is an obvious advantage to sending via courier, and is their chief selling point. A large number of businesses across the US rely on them to get files delivered on time.

Besides the short delivery time, couriered mail has other benefits. When you post something by normal mail, it is susceptible to theft. Because of the lower security of such services, people shy away from delivering valuable items by normal mail, such as jewelry or antiques. With a courier service, security is a high priority. Obviously if something is being hand delivered, it has much less chance of being stolen.

Furthermore, most companies employ some sort of tracking method. A code is assigned to your package and you can trace exactly where the delivery has been at any point in time. This allows you to monitor the progress until your parcel reaches the desired location. If any problems do occur, you will know about it and will be able to hold somebody or something accountable.

Many courier companies also accommodate strange or special delivery requirements. Oddly shaped, oddly sized packages are assigned to applicable modes of transport. Fragile goods are treated with care and everything is insured. One specialized branch of couriering is organ delivery. Couriers must keep the organs refrigerated, travel long distances quickly and ensure no damage arises.

So whether it is an old man receiving his medication, a mother sending her boy a teddy or a sick patient getting a new kidney, courier delivery services are useful. For a little bit extra on the price tag, they go the extra mile - literally.

Freight is efficient and easily accessible in the modern age. There are a variety of quick and reliable transportation methods, including cross border shipment.

Drop Forged Rivetless Chain - What is it?

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Drop forged rivetless chain is the universal chain used in conveyor systems. Millions of feet are in use in thousands of different types of industrial plants throughout the world, giving steady, reliable service every day. Roughly 90% of all conveyor chain used with overhead trolleys is of the drop forged rivetless type. Over its life, it has replaced practically all other types of chain for this particular use.

The main components of drop forged rivetless chain are these three: center links, side links, and pins. The lack of complexity in its design and manufacturing means that links or sections can be replaced with no loss of time. The chain can be assembled or disassembled very easily and rapidly. There are, besides the three main components, a number of different trolleys, attachments and pusher dogs able to be used to suit the exact requirements of the plant’s conveyor line.

A trolley is essentially a wheel that mounts to a conveyor chain to enable it to move on an I-beam or in a steel channel. The chain may be equipped with attachments to allow parts to attach to the conveyor line for processing. Pusher dogs are engaged at key points along the system to initiate specific events.

The parts of this chain are simply and quickly reversed without special tools or equipment to allow for assembly or disassembly of the chain to increase their life and lower the cost of replacement. Furthermore, the design and manufacture of the chain stops it from becoming disconnected while in operation. Installing the chain is also relatively simple. Normally, the chain will be shipped in ten-foot lengths, which are fed into the system. They are then connected to each other by the turn of a conveyor pin.

Drop forged rivetless chain can be used overhead, or on the floor. When used overhead, the chain hangs from an I-beam with the trolleys above, and the load below. Chain that is used on the floor is referred to as inverted, as the trolleys are below the chain, while the load rides above it. The chain is propelled by conveyor drives, which engage the chain and move it through the system. Because of its flexible design, rivetless chain will operate over irregular paths with both horizontal and vertical changes in direction.

All rivetless conveyor chains are not the same. It is the factors of metallurgy, accurate forging, precise broaching, and controlled heat-treating which give drop forged rivetless chains their qualities. Some common metals used in rivetless conveyor chain are high carbon steel, high alloy steel, and microtuff. Furthermore, several finishes, such as zinc, dichromate or black diamond, can be applied to conveyor chain to allow it to perform well in many different environments.

Rivetless chain is available in the following sizes: X698, X678, X458 and X348. The larger the chain, the heavier the load it can sustain. Heavy-duty applications will likely call for X678 chain, which rides in 6-inch track and can have an ultimate tensile strength in excess of 125,000 pounds. Light manufacturing facilities may utilize X348 chain, which goes into 3-inch track and typically has an ultimate tensile strength of less than 40,000 pounds.

Because of its capability to satisfy a broad variety of requirements, drop forged rivetless chain is the go-to chain for many manufacturing companies. No less important is its ease of use and low cost of maintenance. These factors ensure the chain to remain a major technology in several areas of the manufacturing arena.

How is Our Economy Affected by Oil Supply?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

We have seen many economic changes over the course of the past year. Global recession and a need for conservation have been by-words. The price of oil has fluctuated dramatically and finally settled in the mid $70’s per/barrel.

Call for an Oil Change

Change the oil industry and all our problems will be solved was the battle cry across the nation and in government. We need new renewable, national energy alternatives to replace the high price of foreign oil.

Each call for change is a good thing. However, the call for change of drilling and pumping and processing crude all doesn’t always take into account all the other products that are created from our use of petroleum. We need to understand that oil based products are entrenched in the core of our society. Products like: golf balls, make-up,deoderant, lipstick, DVD’s, HDTV’s, even toilet seats, and thousands of other products including artificial limbs.

Less than half of every barrel of oil is used to create gasoline. There are over 6000 items made with petroleum, how many of them can you name? To see a list of 144 products read: A partial list of products made from Petroleum.

How the Recession has Affected the Oil Industry

There are many different ways the oil industry has been hit by the recession, and many of them one might not readily recognize. Did you know how many consumer products are actually manufactured from oil based products? Take tooth paste, soaps, lipstick, sports articles and many textile fabrics, just to mention a few. So if fewer sports articles are sold, the demand for production will diminish, which in turn affects how many people are employed both in production and retail. While a retail sales clerk at a sports store may not seem directly impacted by the recession in the oil industry, he in fact may just have lost his job because of it.

As in any recession, not any one facet can be seem independently from another. How, one might ask, can the loss of sales in the winter sport industry possibly have negative consequences for the oil industry? Think about it: Skis are made from oil based raw material. Fewer skis are purchased, because not as many people can afford their winter vacation. Not only are those at the manufacturing plant affected, but so are, once again, the sales clerk in the sport article industry; and really anybody to do with winter sports: the hotel concierge, the snow plow driver, the laundry service providing clean linen for hotel guests. Fewer customers all around equate to reduced purchasing power all the way around, coupled with unemployment mixes into an almost disastrous cocktail to deepen the recession.

Petroleum products changed our society

Over the past one hundred and fifty years oil based products have become en-grained in every aspect of our society. It took time and tremendous advances in technology to get to that point, and it will take time and technology to make the paradigm shift. There are no quick fixes to reduce our dependence on oil. So in our call for change, we must look at all the other ways and products that will need to be changed as well. We have changed the way we purchase and the amount of products we purchase due to the recession, now we need to change the way we look at the oil industry in order to make it work. They are all intertwined!

Until that day, one company is striving to work within the oil industry and help keep costs of maintenance and repair down so that the cost of oil production will also remain lower - “Miller Oil Field Equipment, Supply & Repair”. Their 45,000 sq.ft warehouse and over 3000 products keep the oil drilling equipment running smoothly and efficiently, thus keeping costs to a minimum. And that is good news for all consumers.

Rising Electricity Costs Reduced By APFC Control Panel Manufacturers

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Energy is no longer a commodity, it’s a necessity in today’s world. Today most of our work and life depends on electricity. Research has shown that in the next 15 to 20 years Asia will be consuming more energy than any other part f the world. This is gradually going to become a pressing issue unless it is addressed soon. Asians pay very high electricity bills as compared to those who live in the US or Canada. It’s time for Asia, especially countries like India to take a good look of where this is heading so that we have a solution before it gets to be a major problem. Currently products such as APFC try to address the problem of high power consumption. Let’s look at what APFC’s are along with what / who uses them currently in a bit more detail. APFC control panels and capacitors refer to automatic power factor control panels. These are used to improve the power factor(PF) of electric devices such as motors. APFC’s achieve this by switching the power through multiple capacitor banks.

Currently a variety of industries use APFC’s within their power supply infrastructure. Some of these industries are mentioned below: - Security Companies - Banks - Hospitals - Commercial Industries - Large Holiday Resorts - Information Technology Parks - Airports - Dockyards - And many others. To cater for such high and varied demands there are different types of suppliers that you can source APFC control Panels from. These range from - APFC Control Panel Manufacturers - Panel Builders - Integrators - Energy Services Companies Due to industries and businesses which operate 24 by 7 (also considering the entry of multi nationals within the country), these types of companies need to operate heavy electrical equipment on a continuous cycle. Naturally the demand for APFC Control Panels has increased dramatically. Currently large industries and businesses face electrical load fluctuations which result in wastage of energy. This energy load is created by large machinery, data centers, freezers, air conditioners, etc… These large electrical loads results in a lagging power factor which in turn wastes energy. Industry standards dictate that the Power Factor ideally should be maintained at Unity which is not something that businesses and industrial outlets can maintain. Historically the power factor has always been less than 1.

So what is a Power factor (PF)? Power factor in technical terms is defined as the ration of Power utilized (KW) along with the Power Drawn (KVA). In common terms when power is applied to any electrical motor, the power for the complete motor is not converted as power utilized (KW). Thus depending on how the induction of the motor is designed reactive power (KVA) is drawn which results in excessive use of KVA. To combat this KVA drawn, the inductive KVAR needs to be removed or nullified. This can only be achieved by introducing an opposite KVAR to obtain the right PF maintaining the system balance. Most Industrial and electrical motors consume KVARs . If the loads can be fixed loads then this can be overcome by manual switching of capacitors. This is usually not the case. That’s where APFC kicks in where-by it overcomes the drawback of the lagging power factor. APFC removes the requirement of manual intervention and maintains a high power factor. The principle of Power Factor (PF) is used in APFC is to supply KVARs via a capacitor there by reducing the power drawn from the supply line. Thus for an Industry with dynamically changing loads, APFC (Automatic Power Factor Compensation) provides the best return on investment, since the KVAR investment required is smaller when compared to a fixed capacitors.

The State Electricity Board (SEB’s) in India has insisted on maintaining an average Power Factor above a specified limit(0.85 - 0.90 PF). This goes to prove that electricity needs to be used efficiently without which penalties added on top of the standard electricity bill. If this is the case in India at the moment imagine what will be in store in the coming years for other countries who face similar energy issues and shortage. The big question that APFC manufacturers are asked is whether there are any problems or issues with their own model of APFC. The main issues that arise in any APFC are: - Improper Design - Improper Component Size when being built - Improper Installation - Wrong connections to the Automatic Relay - A narrow band-width - Discharge Resistor or choke coils burning out. - Time Delay Relays bypassed . - Improper ventilation - Leaks within capacitors

Due to these factors the APFC manufactured results in - Higher Maintenance and frequent visits for servicing - Poorer PF raises the kVA consumed A well designed APFC control panel will have the following, make sure when investing in one that you check if these features are provided - Rust Proof Steel Material is used to create the APFC Panels - Independent fuses are used for circuits - Harmonic current needs to be minimized - APFC contains Micro-Controller along with some digital computation - The capacitors are protected against any kind of damage such as High Voltage, Low Voltage

We hope the information provided was useful. It’s important to note that when dealing with APFC its best to speak to the manufacturer directly so that you are able to understand what is supported and what is not. If your requirements are of a smaller scale then the range of APFC’s to meet those needs will also be a bit different as compared to APFC that may be required for large industrial requirements. Either way make sure that some of the basics that have been discussed in the article are being covered in the information provided by the manufacture.

We are a Pune based APFC Control Panel Manufacturers. We specialize in International quality standard APFC Control Panels. Our internal procedures place great emphasis on nurturing proficient skilled professionals in manufacturing varied electrical panels.

The Many Uses of Overhead Conveyor Systems

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Overhead conveyors are a type of material handling equipment that is used to transport products from one location in a factory to another location. This type of conveyor is exactly as it sounds. It is an overhead conveyor that transports product from one location to another. There are many things that are transported on a conveyor such as boxes, laundry detergent, children’s toys and even car parts.

These can be powered by motors or manually by a person. Powered overhead conveyors that are powered by a motor consists of a mechanism such as a chain that is propelled by an electric motor, air pressure or vacuum. With so many different things that can be transported on a conveyor it’s a wonder why every bigger corporation or company isn’t using them.

The most common conveyor is pulled along by a trolley. The person who invented conveyors is a very smart person because they have allowed the help of moving around product without the worry of it falling off while bring transported by a forklift or other kind of mechanical machine.

There are also conveyors that have two way tracks just like driving on a road they can move different product to different places around a factory to be finished and worked on if needed. There are also places that the product may pass by that certain machines can take the product off if it isn’t going to pass inspection. This inspection is sometimes done by a machine but also sometimes done by a person.

Loads that are on the conveyor belt can stop at different locations to be inspected and/or painted. This helps a lot to make sure that all the product is inspected properly and painted properly for the customer. If companies didn’t have overhead conveyors or floor level conveyors then it would be a lot more work for everyone to have to walk and get the product by themselves.

With overhead conveyors the product is hung on them with things such as hooks. Different things can be hung with several different items depending on the items that are being hung and the weight of them. Overhead conveyors are used for such a large number of items such as paint finishing, filling of bottles (for several items) and even for shoes and clothes.

Overhead conveyors are used for a wide number of items such as Assembly, distribution, paint finishing and even food. Overhead conveyors can be very costly but are very worth it to reduce the use of manpower and they allow a large amount of things to move faster. There are also some conveyors that are floor level and are used in restaurants. These conveyors have plates of food placed on them and the conveyor runs in front of the customers so that they can get their food straight off the conveyors.

With overhead conveyors this is more convenient because this helps in the safety of every employee that works at the company to ensure that they don’t get a hand or finger caught in the pinch points of the conveyor. No matter what kind of conveyor you are working with or on make sure to keep your fingers away from pinch points. IF you are unsure of which parts are pinch points then make sure to keep your fingers away from places that look dangerous.

What are Data Loggers?

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Technological advancements have made collecting and storing data much faster, easier, and more efficient. One such advancement is the use of Data Loggers. A data logger is a device that is used to store data.

These devices read a number of different types of electronic signals to collect the data and then they store the data in internal memory that can be downloaded to a computer when needed. Data loggers are available in a number of different sizes and shapes.

A data logger is used for monitoring and recording information when a person is not in that location. A great advantage of utilizing data loggers is that they can collect data 24 hours a day. When activated, one can leave the data logger unattended to accurately collect information. Information collected can be water depth, movement such as vibrations, temperature, air temperature, humidity, etc.

This can include such functions as: soil moisture level recording, road traffic counting, tank level monitoring, environmental monitoring, wildlife research, gas pressure recording, vehicle testing such as railway signals, weather station recording, monitoring applications, automatic deformation monitoring, hydrographic recording, monitoring shipment temperatures, monitoring shipment package vibrations, deformation monitoring, and energy use monitoring.

Examples of data loggers include: flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder, event data recorder, voyage data recorder, vehicle engine control unit monitor, heating and air conditioning temperature recorder, and water depth recorders.

People like these devices because they can work separate from a computer. Depending on your particular needs, the range of a data logger can be either a single channel fixed function loggers or a multi-channel device that manages hundreds of singles.

One can also choose from a small compact data logger or a larger device. The speed and memory also depends on your needs. The more data that you have coming through, the more memory you will need. The length of the recording will depend on the data logger’s memory capacity and the desired sample rate.

Data loggers are the most affordable type of data and collecting devices. With the various input signal types available, they are more flexible than other data collecting devices. You can also use a data logger that collects data in real time on a computer. However, a computer for the data collection process is not needed which makes them portable.

Most data loggers have a maximum data rate of 1 or 2 samples per second; however, there are more advanced devices that can sample over 100 samples per second. Most data loggers are battery powered and the life of the battery depends on the sample rate and specific model. They can also be plugged into a power unit. As a general rule, the faster the sample rate the shorter the battery life. Another benefit of having a data logger is that if there is a power failure, the data will not be lost.

The price of data loggers have gone down in recent years. This is due to technological advancements in data collection and storage. One can get a single channel data logger for about $20.00. For those who require a dependable device for collecting data, a Data Logger is an effective solution.

We are your number one source for measuring and controlling instruments. We have been providing a range of data loggers, pressure transducer, humidity sensor products to Canadian industries for over 25 years. In-house calibration services are also provided.

Taking A Look At What There Is To Appreciate About High Quality Conveyor Systems

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Taking conveyor systems and learning how they work and why they are so efficient could actually require more than a full lifetime to carry out. Happily, though, one doesn’t have to devote one’s life to this sort of quixotic goal. Instead, one only has to spend a bit of time in learning the basic attributes of such a system and just one simple thing about its maintenance.

To begin with, a conveyor system is a handling system that is mechanical in nature and that specializes in moving materials and goods from one location to another. It conveys them, in other words. The most comprehensive systems never even see the touch of a human being along the path where they pick up an item at one point and then deliver that item at yet another point.

These kinds of systems work very well for the transportation of items that are bulky or heavy, and they can specialize in conveying them efficiently along a given path. Industries where such systems are commonplace include those that specialize in packaging and handling of materials, with many other kinds of systems able to be customized for just about any industry.

The industry that most people think of first when considering conveyor systems is probably the auto assembly industry. Henry Ford himself pioneered the use of a conveyor line, which made it possible for the first time to make automobiles in large numbers. These conveyor lines soon came to be called assembly lines, and he took a bare-bones vehicle at one end and turn it into a complete automobile at the other.

There are other common types of systems just about anywhere in most any industry, including the pharmaceutical and the bottling industries. At their most basic, they will all take some item and then transported along the line where it is either added to or has been completely packaged and made ready to ship. There are several kinds of common systems, including those that pneumatically convey.

How this particular system works is that it moves powdered or pulverized materials along through a system of ducts and pipes. Think of something powdered like cement and how it is blown through these pipes via a strong stream of air, which is the pneumatic portion of the system. The automobile assembly line and the bottling or packaging lines, along with pneumatic systems, make up the bulk of such systems.

As far as maintaining and caring for systems of these types, they are generally given all of the attention possible due to their existence as a virtual lifeline for any company that specializes in assembly or manufacturing or transportation of goods. Recent studies have shown that most such systems break down due to something extremely prosaic; lack of lubrication of moving parts.

Taking conveyor systems and learning how they work and why they are so efficient is only a matter of understanding their basic operation, the industries that use them, and what goes into making sure that they are maintained well enough to keep operating efficiently. One doesn’t have to spend a lifetime studying such a system to take advantage of one, in other words.

Discover How The Multi-Purpose Conveyor Chain Makes Transporting Items Seamless

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

A conveyor chain serves a great purpose in the manufacturing business. The main function of this chain is to transport things on from one place to another, normally in a factory setting.

Large factories avidly utilize conveyor chains so the products that are being manufactured can be made with haste. A worker will simply have to place an item for transport onto a belt that is controlled by this chain. The chain will then begin to carry the item from one place of production to the next.

These chains are normally made from blocks or other solid material that can be left dull or laminated with an oil to lubricate them during their transport process. Normally, the chain consists of one large piece of material that has a series of pins and plates on it. The plates make a difference in the manufacturing process, the deeper the plates are constitute to more items being able to be carried by the belt.

Most of the time, the chains are welded together, but it is not odd to run across chains that are not welded in some places. All chains need to contain a part that is referred to as a sprocket. This small part makes a large difference in the way that the chain operates.

Sprockets, as they are called look like teeth that hook themselves onto the conveyor chain. The teeth have open slots that the chain nestles in. It is these sprockets that allow the chain to move with ease, and move at a faster rate during the manufacturing process.

The system can be made from different materials as well. Some of the most common materials that you will see these chains made from is either a form of plastic or stainless steel. If the chain is made from stainless steel, it will have to be heated in order to enhance the resistance of the chain that is pulled every time that something has to be transported.

The material that you opt to use for your conveyor chain will depend on what you plan on transporting. For heavier materials, it would behoove you to use a steel chain and for lighter materials a plastic chain will probably be sufficient enough to carry out the task of transporting goods.

All of the steel chains are covered with a layer of nickel over them in order to cease any corrosion from occurring to them. A lot of people opt to obtain chains that come with a lubricant on the outside of them to make the manufacturing process easier.

It’s your decision if you want to utilize a source of lubricant for your conveyor chain or not. However, using some kind of lubrication will make the chain be able to perform tasks a little easier. You can get the chains that are already made or you can obtain a chain that you have to put together.

The main things that you should look into before deciding upon a particular conveyor chain is the type of material that you are wishing to transport on the chain as well as the size and the weight of the item that will be transported. You also need to take heed of the distance that the conveyor chain will be traveling and the speed of the chain.

Mailpost The case of MailPost is a clear example of an innovative business model, whereby its Unique Selling Proposition (USP) was actually a franchisee investing and having a stake in the MailPost business, thus offering a higher level of guaranteed service than what was available through an employee or contractor model that was the norm. This USP during a GFC also became the "Achilles Heel" as recruitment of franchisees practically came to a standstill. MailPost relied on a recruitment schedule to establish the mailpost letterbox distribution service on a National basis. Whilst the CEO had a track record of positive growth and profits prior to the GFC and maintained a positive attitude towards a solution to get through the crisis, this leader was not supported but was rather asked to step aside. Mailpost There is no doubt that the recent Global Financial Crisis had a huge impact on many CEO's around the world whether their business was established or in a start up phase. Stress levels reached new heights for leaders as the economic pressure were felt. Successful Leaders anticipate change, vigorously exploit opportunities, motivate their followers to higher levels of productivity, correct poor performance, and lead the organisation toward its objectives. A review of the leadership literature, in fact, led two academics to conclude that the research shows consistent effect for leadership, explaining 20 to 45% of the variance on relevant organisational outcomes. Training and the effectiveness of leadership programs vary. They will because the programs themselves are so diverse. Moreover, people learn in different ways. Because some leadership programs are better than others and because some people participate in programs that are poorly matched to their needs and learning style, we should expect leadership-training effectiveness to have a spotty record. So decision makers need to be careful in choosing leadership training experiences for their managers. But they shouldn't conclude that all leadership training is a waste of money. In conclusion we say that leadership training is a more positive feature provided it is imparted to managers who have come up in the organisation to a certain level by their natural ability and the leadership training will definitely hone their skills to achieve much better performance and capable of taking higher responsibilities. --------------------------------

Jonathan CattanaNEWS: According to a new book, How to pay for private school fees (and still have money in the bank) by Jonathan cattana Jonathan Cattana, you could be spending $45,000 a year to send your child to a private school by 2017 - just 10 years away. Why so high? Over the past 15 years, school fees have increased at two-and-a-half times the inflation rate, largely to meet the higher building and technology costs. LEADERSHIP TRAINING - IS IT NECESSARY? Organisations spend billions of dollars on leadership training every year. They send managers and manager-wannabes to a wide range of leadership training activities, formal MBA programs, leadership seminars, weekend retreats, and even outward bound adventures. They even appoint mentors but much of this effort to train leaders is probably a waste of money. Let's base our thoughts on looking at two fundamental assumptions that underlie leadership training. Mailpost The first assumption is that we think we know what leadership is? Experts cannot agree if leadership is a genetic trait, a characteristic, a behavior, a role, a style, an ability or a learned attribute. Further, they cannot even agree on whether leaders really make a difference in organisational outcomes. For instance, some experts have persuasively argued that leadership is merely an attribution made to explain organisational successes and failures, which themselves occur by chance. Leaders are the people who get credit for successes and take the blame for failures, but they may actually have influence over organisational outcomes. Mailpost The second basic assumption is that we can train people to lead. The evidence here is not very encouraging. We do seem to be able to teach individuals about leadership. Unfortunately findings indicate we are not so good at teaching to lead. Mailpost There are several possible explanations. To the degree that personality is a critical element in leadership effectiveness; some people may not have been born with the right personality traits. A second explanation is that there is no evidence that individuals can substantially alter their basic leadership style. A third possibility is that even if certain theories could actually guide individuals in leadership situations and even if individuals could alter their style, the complexity of those make it nearly impossible for any normal human being to assimilate all the variables and be capable of enacting the right behaviors in every situation. Mailpost Leadership training exists, and is a multibillion-dollar industry, because it works to some degree. Most Leaders would agree that although some knowledge is gained during atraining session, for the most part it is the confidence to lead that is greatly enhanced. Leaders are decision makers which are rational and emotional beings. Mailpost Would a company like General Electric spend literally tens-of-millions of dollars each year on leadership training if it did not expect a handsome return? I don't think so! And the ability to lead successfully is why companies pay CEO's millions and in some case over $100 million to ensure the success of the enterprise. Under their leadership, many companies have experienced spectacular growth including shareholder gains. Mailpost While there are certainly disagreements over the exact definition of leadership, most academics and business people agree that leadership is an influential process whereby an individual, by his or her actions, facilitates the movement of a group of people toward the achievement of a common goal. Ensuring that the group have a culture of working together in a Team spirit and respecting their leader is of prime importance. Mailpost Do Leaders affect organisational outcomes in all situations? For instance, the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) resulted in the collapse of large financial institutions, the bailout of banks by national governments and downturns in stock markets around the world. In many areas, the housing market has also suffered, resulting in numerous evictions, foreclosures and prolonged vacancies. It is considered by many economists to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Mailpost It contributed to the failure of key businesses, declines in consumer wealth, substantial financial commitments incurred by governments, and a significant decline in economic activity. Many causes have been proposed, with varying weight assigned by experts. Both market-based and regulatory solutions have been implemented or are under consideration, while significant risks remain for the world economy over the 2010-2011 periods. Mailpost National business's like MailPost (franchised delivery Network) and many others in a start up phase launched their services during the GFC. In this case a high growth cycle practically came to a standstill. Mr Peter Kritas, the CEO and founder of MailPost Australia Limited from July 2006 till March 2009, was asked to step aside and allow new management to take over the Leadership of MailPost during a very critical period. During difficult situations, it is not uncommon to lose confidence in the Leadership and change management to try and fix the situation. This sort of behaviour should always be exercised with caution as it can do more harm than good. There are clearly some business situations that are beyond any Leaders ability to rectify and wasting time and resource in a change of management is not the best option. In many cases Leaders need more support during a crisis from their management Team to maintain confidence.
