Choosing A Generator - Which Is Best For Your Requirements?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

There are quite a number of options for the home owner and business operator when you need to choose a generator: so many, in fact, that it can be very confusing to those who do not have the knowledge. What source of fuel do you prefer - diesel or petrol? Do you require a small “emergency” generator for the home, or one with a great amount of power to act as a back up when the mains electricity fails in your business? If you don’t have much knowledge as to how generators work, you will find it difficult to choose.

What is the best way to choose? Firstly, you should make a decision as to what actual purpose you will need the generator, because with this knowledge you will be able to determine the capacity. If the generator is for home use, it would not make sense to choose a heavy duty industrial generator, as it would give out more power than you require. As well, if your requirement is to run machinery, a small generator will not be sufficient as it is bound to fail when you need it most.

Both diesel and petrol generators are similar in how they deliver power. Diesel electrical generators are usually found in agricultural environments, on construction sites and in factories and warehouses: in reality, just about any place there is a need for a portable and reliable source of energy. This can be due to the fact that there is no existing mains power (as with building sites) or the mains power cannot be relied upon (agricultural areas and factories).

When you are deciding upon your generator requirements, you need to choose the most efficient model. The size of the portable generator is indicated by the output and speed provided by the manufacturer: generally speaking, a more powerful generator has a greater output and speed. Most generators fall between an output of 5KVA (kilovolt-ampere units) and 2500KVA. The generators with lower KVAs are best for home use, whereas those with a higher KVA rating are more than adequate for most industrial applications.

Choosing the efficiency of the model is the number one step: however, it is also necessary to calculate the load you have to supply. To do this, you merely have to work out the power demand, whether this be in the home or the business, during normal operating conditions. The degree of power that the generator is able to provide will tell you whether it is sufficient to meet the demands of your home or business: the capacity of the fuel tank only determines how long the generator will operate between refueling. It is always a good idea to opt for a generator that provides a slightly higher level of power than you require, thus reducing the possibility of overloading.

Something else you may need to give some thought to is the noise level of the diesel generators. Does the generator need to be run during the night in the home? If this is the case, it is a good idea to choose a silent diesel generator as the decibel level of these is much much reduced when compared to traditional diesel generators. It is also sensible to choose a silent diesel generator with a large fuel tank, to make sure that it runs overnight, thereby avoiding refueling in the middle of the night. The noise output is not such a problem if it is used in an industrial situation, or during the day.

For generators that will be used only occasionally, it makes sense to purchase a good quality used generator, as this will save you a good deal of money.

Having a generator at hand for emergency situations, such as natural disasters or power outages, or perhaps those times when there is no electricity supply available (camping is one such example) is an excellent idea. However, you should do your homework and carefully choose a generator that best suits your individual requirements.

Choosing A Generator That Is Right For Your Needs.

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

If you need to choose a generator, whether it is for home or industrial use, there are many possibilities: so many, in fact, that it can seem quite confusing to the uninitiated. What source of fuel do you prefer - diesel or petrol? Is your requirement for a small “emergency” generator for the home, or one with plenty of power to act as a back up when the mains electricity fails in your business? If you don’t have much of an understanding of how generators work, it will be a difficult decision.

How then, do you make a choice? Firstly, you should work out for what precise purpose you will need the generator, as this will help you to determine the capacity. If you need a generator for home use, it is not necessary to choose a heavy duty industrial generator, as it would provide much more power than you require. In determining your generator requirements, you need to choose the most efficient model. The size of the new portable generators is indicated by the output and speed provided by the manufacturer: generally speaking, a more powerful generator has a higher output and speed. Most generators fall between an output of 5KVA (kilovolt-ampere units) and 2500KVA. The lower KVA generators can be used in the home, whereas the more powerful ones are more than ample for most industrial applications.

The efficiency of the model is the initial step: however, it is also necessary to calculate the load you have to supply. To do this, you just have to work out the power demand, whether this be in the home or the business, during normal operating conditions. The degree of power that the generator is able to provide will indicate whether it is sufficient to meet the needs of your home or business: the the amount of fuel the tank holds only determines how long the generator will operate between refueling. It is always sensible to choose a generator that can provide a little more power than you require, thus reducing the possibility of overloading.

Something else you may need to consider is the decibel level of the petrol generators. Will you be required to run the generator during the night in the home? Selling Information And How To Handle People Who Want It Free

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

If you are selling information, there is a good possibility that you will encounter someone asking if they can get it for free. The question is should you give it to them? In this case I am not talking about friends and family. You can decide how to handle that yourself. I am also not talking about the strategy that many marketers use where they give away a bonus product for free as part of a promotion. That is a good strategy when applied properly. What I am talking about here are people who ask for your product for free.

On a regular basis someone contacts me requesting that I give away my course to them for free. Actually, this happens to me almost daily. Typically, the exchange will go as follows, “I just figured I would give it a shot. I was wondering if I could get your product for free?” While I normally do not respond in the way I am tempted to respond, I often wonder what that person would think about me if I came to his or her house asking for free stuff? Or if I waltzed into her place of work and asked her to give me what she sells at her job free of charge? Of course if I did that, the answer would be no. Yet people still ask me for my products for free. I always respond that they need to pay for them so they will value it. Besides that, I do spend time and money on my products, so I too need to make a profit.

Case in point, there are a number of ebooks that I have on my computer that I never read. Why is that the case? The reason why is they were giving away free ebooks rather than selling information. If I would have spent $27 for them, I would read them because I want the money I spent to be worth the sacrifice financially. However because they were free, there is no value attached to them, so I normally do not read them. Since I do not have all the time in the world to read free ebooks, it is not a high priority to make time.

This is a topic that I can talk about all day and what is funny is that I get these requests almost every day. There are even some people who have suggested I give them my product for free and if and when they make money, they will pay me back. This is of course a silly concept because they have nothing invested into the product. If they got the product for free, there would be no need to implement the concepts, so I would basically just give my products away for free without anything in return. I have to earn a living as well and the way I do that is by selling information that I am passionate about. Also, the fact of the matter is I have invested significant time and knowledge into the products that I offer. The bottom line is if people have to spend money and invest into an information product they will typically have a much greater chance of using the product and getting value out of it.

Here is my business model. Thousands, if not millions of people are searching online for how to make money. They want to find the fastest and most effective way to do so. They want a step-by-step process for how to do this. I know this and I build my products like this. If you understand this regardless of what market you get into, you will be successful because people will be attracted to your products. This is the key to success when you are selling information.

The Power Behind Conducting Online Webinars

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

A webinar is an event. That is yet another of the many reasons they work so well. Webinars are scheduled for a specific date and time. People commit to attend them as they do any other event.

If you have got that kind of commitment, you have a ready buyer on your hands or at least a ready prospect. Events make it very easy to have a reason to buy now. In previous articles, I have talked about having the scarcity, the deadlines, the time, the quantity, the fear of loss, etc.

Another benefit to online webinars is that they are entertaining. They are more interesting than an email. Because they are an interesting new form of media, people like to get on them. It does not take a very entertaining person to conduct a webinar and hold the interest of the participants who are online. The entertaining factor has little to do with the person. The webinar concept itself makes it entertaining.

People do not attend webinars every day. Previously email lists were novel and now they are old hat. Then it was a new idea to attend a tele-seminar. Again, those are not considered outdated. However, webinars are still uncommon enough to be interesting.

Another reason why online webinars are powerful is because they are very engaging. When you attend a webinar you get to look at it, listen to it and interact with it. This level of interaction is one of the best ways to deliver information to adults, which is a big reason why they work so well.

Consider the source of your information. Do you get most of your information via the telephone? Absolutely not! You probably do not get it from a newspaper these days either. You may get information from the paper occasionally, but the large majority of us get the most of our information online and from the television. Online webinars are like an online version of the television, which makes them very powerful.

The Five Exciting Features of Online Web Conferencing

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Webinars offer a variety of special features that are not shared by other mediums of presentation, especially virtual presentations. Here are a few features that make webinars an amazing platform for selling products or services.

1. Interactive format for questions Would you like to know what questions your participants are thinking about in the middle of your webinar? With question boxes, you can allow them to type in their question at any point in time so you can decide when and how you will address them. You can even conclude the webinar with a question and answer period if you want. This is very difficult to do on a teleseminar. It is actually very difficult in many other presentation formats.

2. Make the most of your presentation You can really get your PowerPoint presentation to work for you with webinars. A webinar is so much more powerful than a teleseminar in that your listeners are not just listening along with you, but are also watching along with you as you go through your interactive PowerPoint presentation. This really helps them visually get a feel for what you are talking about and increase their understanding of your message.

3. Conduct an exit survey Once you conclude your online web conference you can survey your participants. There is a lot of value in this. You can ask them what they liked best about the webinar as well as if they would recommend it to others. There are a number of ways this can help you. For instance, based on the responses, you get a good idea who is interested in your products and services. You can then target your follow-up based on those responses. It also allows you to generate testimonials from the survey.

4. Total involvement of listeners Why do webinars work so well? A webinar is super effective at selling. It occupies all the senses. People hearing you, they see you, they use their mouse button to interact with you. It is a total involvement of the senses and as a result it is a higher perceived value than any other kind of sales presentation. It is far better than just hearing my voice. Or it is better than just reading my words in an ebook or something to that effect. Because people can hear the inflection in my words, it is easier to abstract concepts.

5. Emotional involvement of listeners Using an online web conference is the ultimate form of show and tell for your business. You can show and tell about the latest software your company created. You can highlight pictures that better demonstrate what you are trying to explain. I found this very helpful when I am trying to explain about different places that I have gone and visited. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this is clearly the case with a webinar.

Other items you can show are websites, membership websites and virtually anything that will help you to make sales. If you have a retail store, you can show the products that you sell there. Business webinars do a fantastic job at getting the sale. The power is found in the ability to stir up the emotions of the participants and get them to interact with you, which drives the sales process. I am not saying that you should never use other selling strategies. I use them as well. I have just found that an online web conference works very well and I do them continuously as a result.
